Venezuela-De Valera
The complete path to find the north-central Andes is to start the tour in Trujillo, going from James, and continuing south via Timotes in Merida to the moor.
THE DOOR TO THE ANDES Despite the existence of several hotels and inns Valera road to La Puerta, the majority of visitors is up to the last for the many tourist facilities are concentrated in one place.
The Plaza Bolívar is the focus of visitors passing through or staying in La Puerta seen which is surrounded by local selling crafts, strawberries and cream and other "typical." While residents often go to the Green Valley CC with its trendy shops and food fair.
Because of its popularity, the Gate is full of guesthouses. It would be unusual not to find somewhere to stay overnight, because a single pass through the village is sufficient to confirm that, apparently, there is hardly anyone who does not have a sign attached to his house to bring the rental of rooms, apartments or houses vacationers. Like most of these options are improvised, I recommend opting for full-time sites dedicated to hosting tourists.
Arrow-On the main road south (Paez) is lodging Emilia (0271-878.3293) with 10 nice rooms with bath / hot water, cable TV (low temp / high for 2 - BsF 180/200). It has a pizzeria open to the public, a kitchen available for guests (only to heat something, not to prepare meals), power plant and large water tank.

At the south end of La Puerta, a notice marks the entrance to the Castillo San Isidro (for rsvnes.: 0271-878.3639). It is really a huge castle surrounded by a vast terrain.
More impressive is the discovery that was built as the private home of the De Angelis family! They still live here, but now sharing their space with the public as an inn with 11 large rooms, all with bath / hot water and cable TV, but different (with styles ranging from retro-art deco or the 50 - to European classic ... a BsF 280). The first sight on entering the large hall with a height of about 8 m, a huge wrought-iron lamp above, a brilliant crystal chandelier above the broad central staircase gives access to the rooms and mezzanine floors above, large mirrors and paintings with gilded frames, fireplaces, solid ... Is the scene of many weddings and corporate events. Near the entrance to the ground in two modules, there are 10 cozy studio apartment in a single space with double, two single beds, kitchenette, cable TV, bathroom / hot water (BsF 392). There is a games room and parking. Between the door and Timotes, the views of the mountains are carpeted with great crops, many installed in terraces made by the Indians who inhabited the area since pre-Columbian times. Still observed the traditional method of working the land with oxen towing wooden plows.
Timotes That agriculture is the backbone of the economy here is evident by the presence in all the streets in trucks loaded with vegetables for market. At the entrance of the village, Hotel Las Truchas (0271-808.0500) on a hill above the road, which ensures peace of mind. With its excellent condition, could never assume that has been operated continuously by the same family since 1958!

The church in front of the Plaza Bolivar stands out for its very tall tower. Faced with the second place, farther south, is the Sanctuary of the Relic of San Benito. Worth entering to admire the beautiful altar and highly revered relics. On 29 December, is very beautiful the colorful celebration in honor of St. Benedict and the Holy Innocents to commemorate the events of the vassals of San Benito, Indians and blacks to pay promises dancing in the street between the two temples.
