Supporting Sustainable Travel:

provides funding for modernization of lifts of Merida and Caracas

Tourism is for the revolutionary government a priority sector for the final impetus for endogenous development and consolidation of a sustainable economy based on active participation of organized people. For this reason, the Bank of Economic and Social Development of Venezuela (Bandes), as a public financial entity, signed with the Ministry of Popular Power for Tourism (Mintur) a loan to enable the modernization of the cable car in Merida and the extension of the cable car Warairarepano, for a total of 408,700,536 Bs.

Bandes-approved resources to finance the works on both systems are operated by Mintur through Ropeway Venezuelan (Ventelo). Thus, ensuring the progress during 2010 in all matters relating to the procurement, shipment and installation of electromechanical equipment, allowing in two years, the cable car in Merida regain its title of the taller, longer and modern world and that Venezuelans can use the cable car up to a new station Warairarepano (Cojo) in Macuto, Vargas state.

The funding agreement is signed through Regional Development Fund, was held between President of Bandes, Edmee Betancourt Garcia and Ventelo President Jose Gregorio Martinez, representing the Tourism Minister, Alexander Fleming, along the lines commander's president, Hugo Chávez and the policies established in the Plan of Economic and Social Development of the Nation 2007-2013.

"This funding Bandes responds to the Venezuelan people need to have infrastructure to promote tourism development, and now, with this contribution of resources, are about to start work for the modernization of the lifts of Merida and Caracas," said President of Bandes, Betancourt Garcia, once signed the interagency agreement.

As stated by the president of Ventelo, José Gregorio Martínez, this funding Bandes, "contribute to recovery from a major engineering work at national level, they are 12.5 km cableway, which will allow the enjoyment of more than 600 thousand fellow Venezuelans and international tourists every year.
