The International Bureau of Cultural Capitals (IBOCC) appointed Quito, Ecuador, American Capital of Culture 2011, said Ecuador's ambassador in Venezuela, Ramon Torres, told a news briefing from the International Tourism Fair of Venezuela, Fitven 2010, held in Caracas from the hand of the first Tourism Fair of countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (FitAlba).

During his speech, Thompson said the city of Quito is clothed with joy and welcomed such an appointment was made during the Fair in Venezuela. "We are proud to share with Venezuela and Latin this declaration that we are pleased as Quito, Ecuador and Latin America," he said.

He stressed that according to the negotiating table Fitven developed in 2010, the expectation of Venezuelan tourists to Ecuador and vice versa, has increased considerably. He expressed being impressed by the large number of visitors to the fair, who in his opinion are quite interested in both the tourist destinations of Venezuela as the countries of Alba.

"One of the most important successes has been to identify the Venezuelan tourist destinations in Ecuador and the countrymen do the same in Venezuela", he said.

The ambassador took the opportunity to invite the Venezuelans to know the route of the Libertadores and relive the story of these heroes and their struggle for the independence movement. "This is a route that combines tourist attractions and natural beauty with culture and history of the people. Addition involves factors of local development through the participation of their own residents."

He recalled that the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela are working together to further a policy of twinning between the cities, under the Bolivarian vision of rescuing the original values and common destiny of Latin American peoples.

Quito, a land of encounter

For Torres, the designation of Quito as American Capital of Culture 2011, will join sister nations in the same celebration, whose agenda includes about a thousand events that begin in January, with the participation not only of Quito but all the capitals of America, an essential presence in Caracas, representing Venezuela.

"This possibility that the capitals of Latin America can develop joint agendas Quito, gives us the opportunity to see our shared cultural and fundamentally (...) develop the capacity of the American love, know and value what we are" he said.

Quito, also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978, is one of the most important cities in Latin America. Its historical center has been ranked as the best preserved and least altered part of the world.

"For Ecuador the possibility of a car for a good life, contributing to the rescue of identity, culture and integration is a fundamental part in the relentless pursuit of a new development model that respects nature and humans. Venezuela is in Ecuador, Ecuador is in Venezuela, in Caracas Quito, Caracas, Quito is, "concluded the ambassador. (Press Inatur / María Prado)
